Clothes A and B, total cost: $500
The store:
From Clothing A : makes 50% profit
From Clothing B : makes 40% profit
The store puts the articles of clothing 10% on sale
so, the store only makes $157 in profit.
Question:
What were the costs of the clothing articles A and B?
Please set up an algebraic equation and explain the procedure to solve this. I’m sorry if it isn’t really clear, but my dad wrote it, and it doesn’t make sense, so I am interpreting it the best I can. Thank you so much!

Cost of A = a, Cost of B = b
(1.5)a + (1.4)b = 500
(0.1)(1.5)a + (0.1)(1.4)b = a + b + 157
You now have two equations and two variables. You should be able to solve this for a and b.
