If you want to use your article writing skills to make money by attracting masses of traffic to your website you must learn how to write articles effectively. Writing articles is a skill and effetive article writing takes time to learn.

There is a large number of reasons for people writing articles, and if you do it properly, you will generally achieve what you intended to by writing yours. Online, that will usually be to advertise a product or market a website. However, it is the ‘doing it well’ that is the problem for most people, and no matter how hard you try or how good a writer you believe yourself to be, internet article writing is more than simply putting a few words together in a sensible way.

However, you will have to stand back and take a long look at what you are trying to achieve with the articles before you try to use them promote your website or products. Prior to beginning your article you should have a clear idea of what your objective is. When writing articles for ezines or article directory submissions, keep in mind that you won’t normally be allowed to provide links to your website or even to actively promote your products.

To be successful, therefore, you must be able to persuade your readers to visit your website – the site that you list in the ‘author’s resource’ section of your article that normally appears at the end of it. Nobody will click on that link unless they believe that:

a) You really know what you are talking about and can help them with their problems or answer their questions, or b) They believe that your website is going to give them the extra information they are seeking.

Just as with any other skill, you have to learn how to write articles effectively – it is not a skill that ‘comes ‘naturally’, and even good fiction novelists don’t understand the concepts involved. Writing articles in the world of internet marketing is a totally different skill to writing professionally for public consumption. The use of language is different, and the semantic approach to content is totally divorced from the type of writing of which Tom Clancy or Agatha Christie were masters.

That is what you have to learn: article writing skills, and the effective writing of articles intended both for submission to directories and for publishing on your own site. In fact, it is possible for your article to appear as content on a number of other websites! If you don’t understand what I mean by that, then you still have a lot to learn about writing articles to ensure your online success.

It is well beyond the scope of this article to teach how to write articles to meet Google’s needs, and to enable them to act as adverts for your websites, products and services. Google is specifically mentioned, because that is by far the biggest search engine online and many others employ Google’s standards and techniques – even, in some cases, their search results.

Google appear to have taken a positive attitiude to articles published on directories, even to the extend of apparently delaying the duplicate content penalty for articles published on multiple directories. Even duplicate content between a number of article directories appears to take a long time to be noticed by Google.

Many aspiring article writers are put off by many books on writing articles and writers courses which, with voluminous detail on writing articles and analysis of article writing techniques, cause those aspiring to write articles to be confused about how to write articles, to loose interest in writing articles.



Many columnists earning a living by writing articles did not learn their craft from books on how to write articles or writing courses.



Writing articles to many is a means of earning a living. The field of article writing is one in which it matters not whether you are a writing class graduate or a DLitt., or have no formal exam. pass. To write articles you need only reasonable spelling and general knowledge from reading articles in newspapers or magazines, watching documentaries or news. If you lack the discipline and the patience to write books, novels, movie-scripts, you still can enjoy money and fame writing articles. The article writing market is wide: local or national newspapers, juvenile or teen-age, trade or international magazines all need articles, and writers to write articles. You can write articles on ‘how to’ issues, on issues you feel strongly about and can state opinions.

Freelance Article Writing



Not all possess knowledge or interest to write articles arguing issues. But there are many topics on which anyone can write articles. 3. Write Articles with Catchy Titles



An example cited can not be bettered: ‘Princess Raped in Canteen’ -money, food, sex! Write articles with interesting titles.

If for water-bottling trade journal, ‘Healthiest Drink Unhealthy’.

Children’s magazine: ‘Magical Pea Shoots with Water!’



A publisher is quoted to have told a writer: “Just tell me the title and I’ll tell you if I’ll publish it.” Write articles with catchy titles.

How to Write Articles

Article writing are of many kinds. Writing articles of the informative kind there are two kinds of, which differ from most other kinds of article writing: the instructive ‘how to’ articles (e.g., some cookery columns), and the descriptive travel articles. Often they are accompanied by photographs or drawings.

4. ‘The Beginning’ in Article Writing



When writing an article begin by briefly saying what the article is about. Tell readers what your article is going to tell them. Whet their appetite for what you will tell them, in less than 100 words.

In about 1,300 words now tell what you said you were going to…

Children: how, why, peas on wetted blotting paper in box small grows shoots.



In article writing, in the middle you expand the beginning, and also justify the point to be made or emphasised in the ending.



6. Write Articles with Good Endings



When you write articles summarise them at the end. In freelance article writing this is done with a paragraph of not more than 200 words, or two of not more than 100 words each.

If your article writing ambitions include power, the influence of some columnists’, concentrate on writing socio-political feature articles, perhaps first locally -be inoffensive, factual, logical…

If you aspire to writing intellectual or literary articles try college magazines -note: they tend to be ‘modern’. Such ‘littles’ often pay in copies, but are regarded as publishers of ‘quality writing’.
